Description
This partnership seeks to address the challenges faced by SMEs in Ghana and to support the enterprises of young people to survive. Songtaba worked with the Business Advisory Unit of the Ghana Enterprise Agency to finance and mentor 20 young enterprises into successful SMEs. This contest would be highly competitive which would offer young people the opportunity to pitch their ideas to demonstrate the viability of their business to a panel (would have young girls/women represented on it) to assess/evaluate and short-list 20 finalists for the next stage. The 20 finalist would then be trained and coached to fine-tune their business plans during a 3 months’ period. After the 3 months period of training, the finalists would then be supported to formalise their businesses through getting the necessary registration completed with the Registrar General’s Department to obtain certificates of incorporation under the Business Names Act. There shall be another 3 months incubation period for the awardees and within period, they shall be supported to integrate gender transformation and safeguarding into their business models.

Goal
To alleviate poverty in the northern region of Ghana by strengthening young people in a post covid-19 era through trainings and micro start-up businesses.

Outcome

  • 20 young people establish more secure and vibrant enterprises through micro grants support scheme that contribute to economic and social empowerment of young people
  • 20 businesses of young people integrate gender transformation and safeguarding into their businesses
