Description

This programme is implemented in the Northern Region by Songtaba in partnership with Star Ghana Foundation under the Gender Rights and Empowerment Project (G-REP). To improve safeguarding in basic schools in three districts of the Northern Region.

Objective

To contribute to promoting girls access, retention and transition through strengthening mechanisms for preventing teenage pregnancy, child marriage and SGBV among school girls.

Outcome 1

Outcome one: Strengthened mechanisms for safeguarding girls in school from violence and abuse

Outcome 2

Reduction of teenage pregnancy, child marriage among schools girls in 20 communities

Activities

  • Work with Girls Education Unit of Ghana Education Service to conduct a safeguarding audit of beneficiary project schools and challenges faced by girls to stay and continue schools
  • This activity is to document baseline information with regards to schools compliance levels to safeguarding and to identify the entry points to institute the safeguarding regimes
  • Organise Training on GBV and safeguarding for teachers and School Management Committees of the beneficiary project schools.
  • Organise orientation on GBV to girls clubs leadership on the violent box reporting mechanism in all schools and mount one box in each school
  • Facilitate stakeholder dialogues at local-district-national level on GBV prevention/response
  • Mobilised and trained Community Anti-Violence Teams and Child Protection Networks to monitor and report GBV in communities
  • Documentation of GBV (child marriages and teenage pregnant cases) cases in communities for advocacy and to generate intergenerational dialogue sessions on GBV prevention
