The women voice and leadership (WVL) programme is implemented 10 Communities by Songtaba in partnership with Plan International Ghana under the Gender Transformative Programme (GTP). The programme was implemented for two and a half years and worked closely with the women and the larger community. It was commissioned in 2020 July. The goal was to contribute to women and girls’ rights and advancement of gender inequality in Ghana. The project reached out to 3,200 direct beneficiaries in 10 communities within the 2 selected districts of the Northern Region (Yendi Municipal and Kumbungu District). This worked with young adolescent girls (12-18 years) and their networks, women small holder farmers and their network, traditional and religious leaders and men and boys’ groups.
Women's unpaid care work (UCW) is more highly valued within households, communities and government, more evenly distributed within households and hours spent by women on UCW is reduced, resulting in more free time for women to engage in social, economic and political activities.
